How to Stay Warm and Stylish in the Cold
It’s hard to believe the last day of 2018 is finally here. With the new year, now is about the time that I have to force myself to remember to write “2019” (Decemburary as I’ve heard it called). We had an exceptionally warm December for the Midwest, but we finally got a light dusting of snow over the weekend. Not enough for my kids to go sledding, but enough to break out the winter boots, a cozy sweater, and the puffer coat to ward off the chill. When the weather is mild I will wear a simple wool jacket over whatever I am wearing. However, for serious cold weather, thick layers (and lots of them) are the key to staying warm. It can be hard to find thick, warm layers that are feminine and stylish. By sticking to light and airy colors with hints of pink and white, it is much easier to embrace the season for what it is, rather than counting down the days until spring!

Stylish Puffer Coats
When it comes down to winter layering, a wearing nice warm and insulated puffer coat is the key piece for surviving a cold winter. It can be hard to find a puffer coat that is flattering and warm, especially for petite women. I like wearing puffer coats that are either cinched at the waist or fall just at the waist. This feminine and stylish faux fur trim puffer coat from Loft is just what I was looking for this season. This coat is light yet warm, and the faux fur trim adds a luxe touch. It is definitely petite-friendly and it runs slightly large (I am wearing an XXS). Even better it is on sale at 50% off too! Other puffer coats that have caught my eye this season include this fun plaid quilted jacket, this sporty puffer coat, and this misty rose crop down jacket.
Feminine and Stylish Winter Boots
I have to admit, I was eagerly awaiting the first snow, just so I could wear these pretty pink Royal Canadian snow boots. It is rare to find a winter boot that is not only functional but fashionable as well, but this one takes the cake! These boots are not bulky at all, and they are quite comfortable for a day walking around town in the snow. I’ve gotten so many complements while wearing them! For a more affordable option I also like these Sam Edelman Manchester boots. And for a boot that perfectly blends comfort, style and functionality these water resistant shearling lined boots are a great choice.
Warm and Cozy Sweaters
I will tell you, ever since the thermometer went below 40 degrees, pretty much all I wear are sweaters. A nice and cozy sweater is just what you need to keep your core warm. I already posted about this Pretty Guide cable knit turtleneck in this post, and I love it so much I wear it on repeat all the time! I am wearing the off-white color, but it comes in 8 other great colors. Another great option is this Aerie oversized cable turtleneck. A cashmere turtleneck is even better, and this one by C by Bloomingdales comes in a huge array of colors. And for a cable knit sweater that will last multiple seasons, I love this one by Frame.

The Coziest Scarves
The right scarf can go a long way when it comes to warding off the chill! When the weather is especially frigid, you won’t see me without one. One of my favorite scarves is this Free People ribbed fringe blanket scarf. I also love this C by Bloomingdales chunky cashmere scarf. And this feminine pink cable knit scarf is so feminine and functional!
Functional Yet Stylish Gloves
Last but not least, you do not want to forget gloves when it comes to winter layering! When you are out in the cold, your fingers are the first thing that your body sacrifices to conserve heat. Good gloves make all the difference in the world! The ones I like the most are leather gloves that are touch screen sensitive (such as these and these). But when the weather is exceptionally cold I like to wear these Ugg shearling gloves!
So I hope today’s tips for winter layering has given you lots of winter weather style inspiration. And as always, thanks for stopping by!
