Whenever the seasons change I definitely change the overall color palette I wear. In the spring and summer pink, white, and blue are always my favorites. But as soon as fall is here black and brown prevails. And that is why you have been seeing me post a lot about darker colors. Sometimes it is nice to put on a simple black top and a pair of jeans. But just how do you make a basic outfit look more chic?

Start With The Top
Every woman has a basic black top in their closet. It is a great basic piece to have and it works for layering too. When wearing black and denim, I do like to wear a top with a little more design. I love this ruffle shoulder black sweater from Downeast Basics (on sale too!). The ruffle shoulder gives what is an ordinary black sweater a flirtatious, feminine touch. I am wearing it tucked in, but if you prefer a more relaxed style the high-low design of this sweater works well for that. For a lighter option this tie back top works well. And this pearl trim peplum blouse from Downeast basics needs no accessories!

Add Your Accessories
A black top is basically a clean slate, a fresh palette. Adding the accessories makes all the difference! A nice pendant necklace (such as this one) is the perfect way to elevate any outfit. And this one by Baublebar goes one step further. A belt is the perfect way to coordinate your outfit with your top and/or your shoes. This one by Gucci is an investment but is one of my all time favorites. A less expensive option is this silver and suede belt.
Finish Off with Ripped Jeans and Heels
For a really classy and stylish look pair a black sweater with a nice pair of ripped jeans and some black suede heels. I always try to invest in one nice pair of jeans each year, and this year I chose the AG Isabella skinny jeans. These jeans with a 27″ inseam are definitely petite friendly. I love the frosty blue color too. And they are on sale right now for 25% off! And I love these Ann Taylor Mila suede heels are perfect for work and weekend wear, and they are comfortable too!
As always, thanks for stopping by!
