I’ve said it many times before that I love home decorating just as much as I do fashion. To me they are one in the same, as both are a way of expressing who you are and what you like. And anyone who loves decorating their home knows that it is always a work in progress! Just as you finish one room, you start thinking about the next room. And of course every 5-10 years each room deserves a complete revamp. We moved into our home five years ago and at the time I worked with a designer to style the main rooms of our home. But even after that my tastes changed and I have already changed so much since that time. We redecorated our living room last year (see this post) but I used a lot of the original pillows in the room. How to Style a White Sofa
Our white couch that we reupholstered last year has held up well (despite having four young children). And thank goodness it has! When you have a white couch you can style it one of two ways: with a pop of color, or through adding patterns and texture). Before I had pillows that were more colorful, but this time I wanted to create a light and airy look for the sofa. Thankfully Serena and Lily has great neutral pillows to create the look I wanted. My sofa came with white pillows, so I wanted a pillow that complements the existing pillow, yet adds an element of visual interest. And this Camille diamond pillow I found is just perfect for the light and airy look I wanted. The ivory color matches perfectly with the sofa. And I love the geometric design that looks almost hand-painted. And if you are ordering a Serena and Lily pillow, don’t forget to also get the pillow insert. These are nice and firm so that your pillow will look nice and fluffy.
Serena and Lily Palermo Cotton Throw
Now that the temperatures are falling, it is always nice to have a throw to cuddle up with to keep you warm. Not to mention a nice throw is a great way to add a decorative statement to your sofa. Here you see on my sofa is the Palermo cotton throw. This ultra soft throw is made of Turkish Aegean cotton and is eco-friendly too. The combination of stripes and a herringbone pattern works really well with the geometric Camille pillow. And I love the light and airy look of this throw!
It’s The Little Details That Matter
A house isn’t a home without all the decorative pieces you add to the space to make it yours. And I love eclectic collection of decorative accents that Serena and Lily offers. Their pieces are unique, with a bit of a California coastal vibe. And this scalloped Capiz hurricane is a the perfect way to bring texture and dimension into the space. The small version is the perfect size for our end table. The scalloped design creates an ethereal feel, and the gold accents add a nice bit of polish to the hurricane. Because this hurricane is opaque, it diffuses the light from a burning candle to create a soft, warm glow.
I swapped out the ginger jars that were in the space for pillar candles. And these Carmel rattan candlesticks were just what this table needed! They blend in perfectly with the existing decorative pieces on the coffee table. The whitewash finish gives them a light, beachy vibe. The horizontal ridged design is a nice juxtaposition to the floral vase I added to the table.
Mixing Old With New
When decorating a space I like to use existing pieces wherever I can. The pillow you see in the side chair is an old one I purchased from Serena and Lily many years ago (updated version here). Yet it looks brand new and it matches the fabric on the chair perfectly!
