Tieks by Gavrieli Review

Ever since Oprah Winfrey talked about Tieks by Gavrieli, I have always wanted to try them. The colors are so pretty, and the trademark blue soles make a great fashion statement. When my good friend Jessica of Petite Style Script gave her review (seen here) I became even more intrigued. So when I saw this beautiful metallic pewter color on the Tieks website, I decided to take the plunge and buy them. I am very glad I did!

My initial impressions of Tieks  is that they are are very good. They are a little more expensive than your typical ballet flat (ranging between $175 for classic colors up to $345 for more unique styles. Price was the thing that kept me from buying them in the past as I wasn’t sure at the time that they were better than other ballet flats I have owned. Once I received my Tieks ballet flats, I could see why they cost a little more than other ballet flats available as right away I could see they were very high quality and nicer than almost any ballet flat I own (the exception being my Ferragamo Varina Leather Flats).

Some other thoughts:

  • The leather is high quality Italian leather
  • Stitching of the flats is by hand and the difference in quality is noticeable
  • The soles are stronger than other ballet flats I own
  • They are foldable, so they are easy for travel and fit in my purse
  • A nice little bag comes with the Tieks to make packing them easier
  • They are very comfortable and designed to be worn for any hours at a time

The Tieks website recommends you size down if you are between sizes. I am a 7 1/2 so I purchased the size 7. The first day I wore my Tieks they did hurt my great toes somewhat. I will say though that by the end of the day the pain was negligible. The Tieks site will tell you that these ballet flats are made to stretch and conform to your feet. By the next day, these flats were stretched enough that I no longer had any great toe pain. Because they were tight, there was no heel slipping either.

These flats are simple enough for casual wear, but also dressy enough that they can be worn to work. In today’s post I am wearing them with a simple cable knit sweater from J. Crew Factory, a chambray shirt, and a pastel plaid blanket scarf. My Treasure and Bond ankle skinny jeans complemented the outfit well.

Overall though, I am very impressed with my Tieks and would certainly be willing to purchase them again!

  1. Hi April, I’m so glad you took the plunge and purchased your first pair of Tieks! I originally saw them on Oprah too & waited awhile to purchase my first pair. I love the metallic pewter color; maybe another color to add to my growing wishlist! Thank you so much for linking to my review too; so thoughtful of you. I look forward to seeing more outfits with your Tieks 🙂
