Spring Gardening Season

It looks like the light at the end of the tunnel is finally here! We certainly had plenty of ice, rain, and snow this week (but thankfully no blizzard like many parts of the country). At one point my daughter and I mused about moving south for good. But by midweek the sun was shining and I was actually hot in my car for once! So with warmer temperatures that means it’s time to clean up the flower beds and do some planting for the spring and summer. Since I was a kid, I always loved gardening. I remember planting flowers in our flower beds in our front yard (while trying not to be stung by a bee).  I also loved growing tomatoes in the back yard with my mom and dad – and we were always overrun by tomatoes at season’s end. When I finally bought my first home, one of the first things I did was plant flowers by the Wisteria tree in my back patio. Fields of flowers are always something I have enjoyed seeing, and maybe that’s because my name is April!

Since it was pouring rain most of the week, we decided to head to our local Turner’s nursery to decide what flowers we wanted for our flower beds this year. Even though we were in a nursery, the flowers weren’t quite in bloom yet, but there were certainly a few to see. In a few weeks I know that all will change, as Turner’s nursery is normally filled with thousands of blooming perennials and annuals. Visiting a garden center is one of my favorite things to do with the kids, as they just love picking out the prettiest flowers of the season (and so do I!).

J. Jill Life in Linen Collection

When it comes to gardening, I do like to wear comfortable clothes. That’s were J. Jill’s new Life in Linen collection comes into play. This sunshine-ready collection of coordinated pieces makes it easy to put together a stylish, casual look that can work for any occasion. This collection of lightweight shirts, pants, dresses, and skirts are meant to work together, so you can mix and match pieces to come up with so many different looks!

Here I am wearing the Striped Linen and Cotton Drawstring Top. This lightweight top is comfortable, and not at all itchy (like other linen pieces I’ve tried). The combination of diagonal stripes at the boat neckline, horizontal stripes on the sleeves and body and vertical stripes at the border create an eye-catching look. The slate blue color looks so nice with the contrasting white straps. And the drawstring at the hemline is functional. Puling it in accentuates my curves.

I am loving these Easy Linen-Stretch Flat-Front Pants. These lightweight pants are definitely petite-friendly (as they also come in petite sizes). These are my new favorite pants for spring! These pants can be dressed down for the weekend with a casual top. Dress them up with a tailored shirt and wear them to work (as I did on the last day of the week). The stretch waist is comfortable and not at all constraining.

To complete the look I am wearing an adorable starfish necklace, and a fun straw hat. And I am loving my new See by Chloé espradrilles! This is a great look for a day in the garden, a cooler day on the beach, or even a fun lunch date with friends.

For even more casual, wearable looks, J.Jill is offering 30% off all sale styles. There are so many pretty tops, pants and dresses that would be great for a breezy spring day!

As always, thanks for looking!

  1. We love gardening. Thankfully we live in the south so we have been working on our garden for a couple months now. Although the weather turned colder again this weekend, next week we are in the 80s again. I love visiting the garden center and picking out new plants for our yard!

  2. I love your top! It is so casual and classy at the same time. I am really excited that it is spring time and all the pretty flowers are out!

  3. Looks like you had a good time! Your outfit is absolutely classy and cute at the same time. Trust me, when it comes to gardening you definitely need some comfy clothes.
