How to Add Color to your Work Outfits
Lately I have been posting casual outfits. Truth be known, however, I actually have to wear professional looking outfits five days out of the week because of what I do for a living. Over the winter it had been getting dark so early that I rarely got a chance to post about those outfits. Now that the daylight lasts longer I can finally post about more professional attire. In today’s post I am wearing this simple but elegant striped bell sleeve sweater from Ann Taylor (on sale for 40% off the sale price!). To keep the outfit clean and simple I am also wearing the Ann Taylor Kick Crop Pants. I am wearing these in a size 2 regular, not petite as I did not wan’t ankle length slacks. The outfit is a bit understated on it’s own but with the addition of this bright burgundy bag the outfit suddenly becomes more eye-catching.
Today’s outfit, with the addition of the bag, is only one way to add color to your work outfits. There are so many other ways to do so! Examples include:
- A bright lip color – In this case the lip color should complement something else in the outfit, such as the bag (as I have done in today’s post), the shoes or a color in the outfit itself.
- A colorful scarf – There are so many colorful scarves available right now! This could be done when wearing a textured outfit such as a tweed dress or a simple solid colored sweater.
- A bright blazer – Adding a bright solid colored blazer to a solid colored skirt/top , dress, or pants/top outfit can be a great way to incorporate color.
- Shoes – Add flair to a predominantly black, gray, or white outfit by wearing bright pink, turquoise, or yellow pumps.
- Necklace – Statement necklaces come in such a variety of colors and styles. A colorful statement necklace can draw dramatic attention to a solid top and skirt.
- Tights – Add colored tights to a solid or floral skirt. The tights should complement either the skirt or the top in the outfit.
To be effective, one does not need to be extreme when adding color to an outfit. In general it should be one large item, such as a bag. Several smaller items together (such as scarf/shoes/lipstick or necklace/shoes) can also work well to add color to an outfit.
I hope you find these tips helpful! As always, thank you for reading my post.
