Three Ways to Transition a Summer Floral Dress into Fall

I think Indian Summer is finally over, which means it’s time to bring out the fall fashions. Of course, it is nice if you are able to transition some of your summer pieces into the fall. So today I thought I would show you some of my ideas for getting more out of your summer wardrobe. I picked up this pretty and feminine bell-sleeve floral dress during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, and sadly it sold out days before I was ready to post it. Thankfully, floral dresses are so popular this season, that I have linked to several similar dresses for your inspiration.

Add Darker Accessories

The floral dress I am wearing is light pink, which would make it perfect for spring or a cooler summer evening, when paired with some nice sandals. For the fall, darker accessories make a dress like this more appropriate for the season. I’ve had these burgundy Stuart Weitzman boots since last winter (see where I previously wore them here), and I knew they would be perfect with this dress!  The burgundy accents on the dress perfectly complement the shoes. My matching bag really brings the whole outfit together.

Add a Cardigan or a Blazer

Even though I am not showing it here, a cardigan or a blazer is a great way to transition a summer floral dress into the fall. I love this Nic + Zoe Chiffon Back cardigan. It is a nice neutral cardigan that would look nice over a floral or other patterned dress. This Cotton Blend Tie-Waist cardigan from Banana Republic is also would look great with a dress. My favorite type of cardigan though, to wear with a dress is a waterfall style cardigan such as this classic cashmere one by the Aqua line from Bloomingdales (see how I styled a very similar one here). As for a blazer I have and love this Eliza J Ruched Sleeve Blazer. I have worn it over summer dresses for work many times.

Add a Leather or Denim Jacket

A denim jacket is an easy way to style a summer floral dress for fall (see this post here where I did this). I have this adorable star print denim jacket and I can’t wait to style it over a dress or sweater for fall! Leather jackets are popular again this year and they are such a great way to add a extra element of style to a dress. This faux leather jacket by Blank NYC definitely does not break the bank (see how I styled it here). This year I upgraded to a genuine leather moto jacket (sold out but this one is very similar) and expect to see several upcoming posts where I style it!
